Frame Switch

Switches between two complete frames. In Cut mode it jumps from A to B. In Fade, Wipe, and Morph it transitions from A to B as the Mix input goes from 0 to 1, so you can sweep between two scenes with a Phasor, an Envelope, or a macro.

Inputs

PortTypeDefaultRangeDescription
Selector / MixScalar0.00–1In Cut mode (Selector): below 0.5 shows A, 0.5 and above shows B. In the other modes (Mix): 0 shows A, 1 shows B, values in between transition
AFrame——The frame shown at 0
BFrame——The frame shown at 1
SeamScalar0.00–1Morph only. Moves where a closed shape starts, which changes how it unrolls or twists
ReverseSwitchoff—Morph only. Runs B's paths in the opposite direction

Outputs

PortTypeDescription
FrameFrameA, B, or the transition between them

Controls

  • Mode: how the node gets from A to B.
    • Cut: jumps to B when Selector reaches 0.5.
    • Fade: dims A out while B dims in.
    • Wipe: A retracts from its end while B draws on from its start, along the path.
    • Morph: reshapes A's paths into B's, pairing them in order (A's first path with B's first, and so on).

Ideas

  • Morph a Circle into a Star and drive Mix with a Sequencer for a shape that breathes between the two on the beat.
  • Right-click the Mix row to link it to a macro, then map the macro to a MIDI fader to perform transitions between two scenes by hand.
  • Use Wipe with a Phasor on Mix for a scene that draws itself over the previous one, then loops.
  • In Cut mode, feed Selector from a Sequencer with a 0/1 pattern to flip between two branches on the beat.

Tips

  • At 0 and 1 the node passes A or B through untouched and skips the other branch, the same as Cut.
  • Morph lines up each pair of paths automatically, picking the start point and direction that move the least. If a morph still pinches or twists, try Seam or Reverse.
  • Paths that can't be morphed (unpaired paths when A and B have different counts, dots against lines) crossfade instead.
  • Morph pairs paths by order. Sources whose paths change from frame to frame, like video or animated files, can shimmer mid-morph.
  • The same morph drives clip transitions on the Timeline and in Cues.
  • Merge: show both frames at once instead of choosing between them
  • Brightness: fade a single frame in or out
  • Sequencer: beat-synced driver for Mix or Selector
